Seasoned Blogger Cyprian Nyakundi, on Tuesday, gave some tips on how to build a great blog.

Read his comments below:

I always tell upcoming bloggers that you have to build trust, authority and sources in your niche before anything. Media has resources to employ people in all regions, sth bloggers can’t do. Your sources and reporters are the people. But most don’t listen. That is why we have many upcoming bloggers copying content from media yet news is all over. No matter how boring your story is, ensure it is original.

Since I opened my blog in 2013, I have seen bloggers come and go because they did not get traffic and readers. You have to build an audience. And the audience will come if your content is original, no matter how boring it is as long as it is original.

9 years in the blogging industry

Blogging is not an extension of the media. This blogging is somehow new and sometimes you learn new dynamics of the industry every day.

That is why blogging is all about cross-pollination of content. For instance, I write about the mistreatment of workers at company A and workers at company B relate to that and send their experiences too. This builds up into lots of content building a mountain. That is blogging

Considering the Kenyan internet dynamics, it can take approximately 4- 5 years to build a solid blog with some audience and authority assuming you are consistent and original.

If you blog about gossip and local celebrities, it is usually an instant hit in traffic then it completely dies out. But for corporate fraud and society issues, the article will be relevant for many years. That is why an article I did in 2016 is trending today. Strange!

Creative writing blogs are also growing in popularity because many people relate with what that is there.
