On a day that the country has recorded a record 389 Covid-19 cases in 24 hours, the veritable lawyer Dr John Khaminwa has urged the Govt to open up the country.
‘Deaths are inevitable. Collapse of the economy will cause more unpredictable hardship leading to numerous deaths and fear of failed state scenario’, the statement stated in part.
Kenya’s total Covid-19 (SARS-Cov2) cases stands at over 7550.
Below is the full statement
Let our President open the Country on Monday 6th, July, 2020. We are planning to celebrate his announcement. Deaths are inevitable. Collapse of the economy will cause more unpredictable hardship leading to numerous deaths and fear of failed state scenario. This is a catch 22 situation.
Let us not forget the emerging two International Rights, the right to be sick and the right to die. This case gives us an opportunity, although difficult to appreciate that death is inevitable and the doctrine of hard work as ordained by God must always prevail. The Government cannot be expected to police lives of 50 Million people.
No Government has the resources to undertake such a gigantic exercise.
It is the responsibility of each one of us to look after ourselves. Of course in the extreme hunlan cases due to extreme poverty or physical disability, there will always be a helping hand from the Covemment.
President Magufuli has given us a lead. Let us emulate hits and follow footsteps of our big brother in Tanzania whom we admire as a respected African Statesman.
Dated at Nairobi, this 4th of July 2020
Dr John Khaminwa, LL.D, DD.
