The Best Are Not White

Polished, smooth and gleaming.
Idols- the admirers of my skin color
The most admirable and profoundly worshipped
Adorning places that matter
In cities of the world.

Their racist gods stand the test of time.
Unashamed representatives of my hue
Here to stay – to rule.
While liberty slips through the fingers of the free world
Where the statue of liberty has refused to hold
And it heads back to Rome
Where the same abounds.

In our time,
Liberty slips through the fingers of the free world
– a short stint for a white statue
It heads back to Rome, where numerous like it, abounds
– fallen.

Black, after all, is not bleak.
