Must I repeat that I respect and like this author?
For some reason, Ms Kananu captures things best. She knows how to paint pictures best.
In this book, the poems speak to the heart of the African, the Kenyan, from the Meru tribe of Kenya.
The overarching issue that she tackles is how we’ve neglected our culture and blindly embraced Western ways.
She frowns upon bad ways, she curses the uncultured, she rebukes the weird ways such as underage marriage, she advises on good ways of conduct etc.
The kimeru words infused within the poems made me envy their meaning but Ms Kananu solved that by including the glossary at the end.
Nonetheless, the words flow, the poems spot on.
This author is exciting and should look at how she can write more for she’s a Kenyan diamond in the rough.
