Long-serving leaders often have what can be described as degenerate behavior.
In Western terms, they are known as dictators.
I have mixed feelings about Muammar Gaddafi being called a dictator, however, there are the good, the bad, and the ugly.
Benevolence in dictatorship wins, but outright debauchery is also a state of being that some leaders hurtle down.
Here are 7 craziest acts carried out by world leaders s curated by Mandroid (@BigBounce01), enjoy.
- Saddam Hussein and his Blood Qur’an
Around 1998, Saddam Hussein, the late Dictator of Iraq commissioned the copying of a “Blood Quran”. He had an entire holy book written using his own blood as the ink! The holy book called “Blood Qur’an” was written over the course of two years.
He did this to honor God for helping him through many conspiracies and dangers. In his own words: “My life has been full of dangers in which I should have lost a lot of blood…but since I have bled only a little,I asked someone to write God’s word with my blood in gratitude”
It was reported he donated about 27 litres of blood to be used to pen down the 605-page book. It was published in the year 2000.
- Jean-Bedell Bokassa
Jean-Bédel Bokassa (1921 – 1996) was a Central African political and military leader who served as the 2nd President of the Central African Republic until he declared himself “Emperor”. Bokassa’s leadership lasted for fourteen years.
Bokassa declared his own Coronation as Emperor Bokassa I in 1977 at a sports stadium. The coronation was almost an exact copy of the coronation of Napolean in 1804 and marked by luxury and pomp.
The “coronation” cost TWENTY MILLION DOLLARS – an amount equal to the annual income of ten thousand of his subjects. Bokassa purchased one hundred black Mercedes-Benz sedans for the coronation. It was called “the event where everybody who was nobody attended”
- Teodorin Obiang Nguema
The vice-president of oil-rich Equatorial Guinea Teodorin Obiang Nguema (who also just happens to be the son of president Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasog), bought a a 76-meter (250 ft) luxury yacht that cost for $120 million.
(It was seized by Dutch authorities in 2016). Three-quarters of the population of Equatorial Guinea live below the poverty line.
- Muammar al-Gaddafi
Gaddafi’s Speech at the UN General Assembly 2009 was nothing short of epic. It was meant to last for fifteen minutes, but it went on for over an hour. Some of it’s more prolific highlights are listed here.
(i) ‘Our son’ Obama Qaddafi extended his congratulations to “our son Obama” on the occasion of his first speech at UN. “Obama is a glimpse in the darkness after four or eight years,” Qaddafi said. “We are content and happy if Obama can stay forever as president of the United States.”
(ii) UN Security Council Terror Council “We are not committed to obeying or adhering to resolutions by the Security Council in its composition right now,” Qaddafi said. “It should not be called the Security Council, it should be called the ‘terror council.’ ”
(iii) Swine Flu: The capitalists made it “The swine virus may have gotten out in the open after escaping from a laboratory. It may have been put together in a lab by the military…. We do sometimes make viruses in a laboratory and then they make viruses for capitalist companies who will make vaccinations and make money.”
(iv) Iraq war the ‘mother of all evils’ “Sixty-five aggressive wars took place without any collective action by the United Nations to prevent them,” Qaddafi said. He noted the Iraq war, in particular, as being “the mother of all evils.”
(v) JFK killed because he wanted to investigate Israelis “Why did this Israeli kill the killer of Jack Kennedy?” Qaddafi asked, after noting that Jack Ruby, “an Israeli,” killed Kennedy’s assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald. “The whole world should know that Kennedy wanted to investigate the nuclear reactor of the Israeli demon,” Qaddafi said. Qaddafi also called for a re- investigation into the assassination of the Martin Luther King Jr. “His killing was a plot, and we should know why he was killed and who killed him,” Qaddafi said.
(vi) UN should relocate to Libya “You will thank me for not having to travel for 20 hours to this place.”
5. Mao Tse Tsung
Chairman Mao had a sexual relationship with Chen Luwen, a self-described “imperial concubine.” She was 14 at the time, and he was 68. The relationship lasted almost a decade, from 1962-1971.
- Joseph Stalin
Stalin once sanctioned assassins from the Russian intelligence outfit KGB to go to Los Angeles and kill U.S actor John Wayne, simply because he thought he was anti-communist.
- Napoleon Bonaparte
At the height of his powers Napoleon developed the habit of dressing up as a lower-class bourgeoisie and wandering the streets of Paris.
Seemingly, his aim was to find out what the man on the street really thought of him and he reportedly quizzed random passers-by about their Emperor’s merits.
